Watchmaking tool: The magnifying glass

The watchmaker’s emblematic tool, commonly known as “microphones” in watchmaking jargon, is a magnifying glass with remarkable properties.
There are various levels of magnification.
The magnifying glass that comes with your watch kit is grade “2.5”, corresponding to the essential working magnifier.
Although it requires some initial training to be correctly positioned on the guiding eye, its use quickly becomes intuitive.
By placing the large diameter of the “microphones” against the eye and opening it wide, then returning to a normal position, the magnifier can be easily adjusted and held in place.
At a distance of about 6 cm from the object to be observed, the sharpness of vision is optimal.

Tweezers

The watchmaker calls it tweezers while writing it in the plural! It is a clamp whose branches stand out. You’ll use it to grab the miniature pieces. Unlike the other watchmaking tools in your kit, the tweezers require a little practice: practice gripping the hands and resting them on the chamois cloth before transporting the precious little Persée components over the workspace!
Your tweezers have been selected by Maison Alcée in brass rather than stainless steel, in order to reduce the risk of scratches that could be caused by an inexperienced hand.

Watchmaking tool: Finger cots

Among the essential professional tools for any budding watchmaker, finger cots play a crucial role in the preservation of each component. In watchmaking, it is Recommended to work with the latex finger cots threaded on four fingers of each hand: thumb, index finger, middle finger and ring finger. The reason for this requirement is to prevent the natural acidity of the skin from oxidizing the components. This protection also prevents the effect of perspiration that could cause your watchmaking tools or the various parts of your office watch to slip.
